The British Sarcoma Group is the professional association of the specialist clinicians, nurses and supporting professionals who treat patients with sarcoma in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.
The Group was founded on May 17th 2004 in London.
The Aims of the Group are:
- to advance the science and practice of the diagnosis and treatment of bone and soft tissue sarcomas
- to promote basic and clinical research,
- to disseminate knowledge in order to provide a common high standard of sarcoma care.
The particular purpose of the Association is to promote mutual collaboration between different specialists and institutes involved in the treatment of sarcomas and to foster training and education. The Association is currently taking advice on registering as a charity.
Membership
The membership of the Group consists of full members, honorary members, corresponding members and emeritus members.
- A member is defined as any doctor, nurse, scientist or related health care worker who is interested in the study of or management of sarcomas and who attends at least one annual meeting. Trainees are welcomed at all meetings but cannot become a member until in a substantive post.
- Honorary members may be proposed for their distinguished services to sarcoma care or to the Society, or nomination by the Executive Committee and elected at the General Assembly.
- Emeritus members are full members who have left their active professional post in oncology. They are welcome to attend the annual meeting. They are absolved from payment of membership fees.
Voting rights are reserved for full members and honorary members. Emeritus members have no voting rights.
